Child of God (2014)

Based on a 1973 novel by Cormac McCarthy, Child of God concerns Lester Ballard (Scott Haze), an unhinged, unstable young man -- a "child of God much like yourself perhaps" -- who is thrown out of his childhood home and takes to living in the woods. Armed with his rifle, for which he saved up and bought as a child, he hunts and steals to survive. Soon he desires companionship. He wins some giant stuffed animals at a carnival, but he craves a human touch. He comes across a dead man and woman in a car and decides to have sex with the woman's body. He keeps her in his shack, but when the shack burns and he loses her, he must start killing young lovers to keep up his new hobby. read more...

Peeping Tom (1960)

From a screenplay by Leo Marks, Michael Powell's Peeping Tom (1960) is a cornerstone in film history. There are many great movies, but only a few (Citizen Kane, The Godfather, Pulp Fiction) have served as a turning point, a marker that changed everything that followed. Peeping Tom was the first movie to turn cinema back in upon itself and play with the theme of voyeurism. read more...

Under the Skin (2014)

It took director Jonathan Glazer ten years to make his third feature film, which is rather incredible for the talented fellow who made Sexy Beast (2001) and Birth (2004), not to mention the great music video for Radiohead's "Karma Police." Apparently, there were no other projects during this time; it took ten whole years to make Under the Skin. read more...
