Batman: The Second Season, Part 1 (1966)

Last year came the great news that, at long last, the original 1966 Batman TV series was finally debuting on DVD and Blu-ray. (A rights haggle had kept it off the market for ages, though bootleg copies were widely circulated.) Unfortunately, the gigantic Blu-ray box set, entirely remastered, was prohibitively expensive. Now, Warner Home Video is releasing the series in smaller chunks, such as Batman: The Second Season, Part 1, which contains 30 half-hour episodes (15 full stories), on four DVDs. read more...

Batman: The Complete Third Season (1967)

Last year, Warner Home Video released the entire 1960s "Batman" TV series on a huge Blu-ray box set, but for those of us who couldn't afford such an investment, they have been releasing the series in smaller chunks on very fine DVDs (the picture is remastered and looks amazing either way). Finally, the complete third season makes its debut, with 26 episodes on four discs, plus a fifth disc full of nifty bonus features. read more...

Batman: The Second Season, Part 2 (1967)

For those that couldn't afford the prohibitively expensive, full-sized Batman Blu-ray box set ($269 retail), Warner Home Video has happily broken it up into smaller, more affordable chunks on DVD, but still boasting a beautiful full-color picture and crisp sound. Like the previous release (Batman: The Second Season, Part 1), Batman: The Second Season, Part 2 contains 30 episodes on four discs (retailing for $40), originally running from December of 1966 to March of 1967. Batman fans sometimes regard these shows as a campy downturn in the history of their hero, but the writing on these shows was often much sharper and funnier than their reputation might suggest. read more...
